It's Week 2 of my NO SMOKING resolution and so far, so good. I went out last Friday and I smoked 1 cig (actually, I had a craving, smoked it, didn't like it, and killed it before it was finished). Had a moment of weakness last Monday night because I was so constipated. But other than that I find that I really don't look fir it anymore. And it feels better to wake up without the smoking hangover. Go me!

****

It's June, and in the Asian Ultimate calendar, June means Shanghai. Shanghai is bar none my favorite tourney -- the competition is intense, and every one of my frisbee friends head are there. I can't wait to play hard, and party even harder. And this year, with a full force Philippine team going, I think we have a pretty good chance at actually winning the tournament this year. Go us!

****

My boobs have been so tender lately. To the point that when I jog they fucking hurt! Like I have to hold them. Maybe I'm pregnant.

Hahaha! No I'm blaming them the pain on hormones. In the words of Seth Rogen in Knocked Up -- "Fuck you homrones!"

72 hours later...

Jun. 9th, 2008 | 05:04 pm

I have been asked the same question over and over again these past few days -- how does it feel to be 30?

To be honest, I don't feel any different physically. And I still look 25.

But I've been noticing that my maternal instincts have kicked in -- waaay in. Like never in my life have I yearned this much to have a child. Could it be that once you hit 30 that fabled "biological clock" really starts ticking? I need to find a snooze button on that pronto!

****

So what did I do on my birthday? The usual -- dinner (in Kabisera -- the "high end" Dencio's which is not better than the "low end" one) with family and close friends, drinks in Warehouse with my dearest buds, and the next night, a really yummy dimsum dinner in Binondo thanks to Noel (who was sweet enough to take the day off on my birthday). I really felt like I was in some dingy noodle house in HK's Kowloon side. God I love dimsum so much I swear I can eat it everyday.

****

As my birthday gift to myself I decided to quit smoking once and for all. Now that I'm working at a health show and constantly reading about these doomsday articles about women and smoking, I figured it's really now or never. Day 3 and so far, so good. Just a little dryness in my mouth but no major withdrawal symptoms.

I read in a quit smoking blog that it's better to list down things that make you smoke so you can avoid them in the futre. So here they are:
1. Stress from work.
2. Taking a poop.
3. Drinking.
4. Going out.

I experimented in Europe with my family and it was possible for me to poop without the cigarettes... I just had to consume a lot of milk. But I wonder if my healthy 3-times-a-day bowel movement will be affected by the absence of tobacco?

Ok moving on.

I've avoided social situations so far (i.e. drinking sessions) so I can avoid the urge to smoke with a glass of vodka or rum at hand... because it really feels so damn good to smoke with alcohol.

Hopefully, 1 month will whiz by and then 2 and then 3. Wish me luck guys!!

Double happiness

Jun. 4th, 2008 | 08:50 am

... is what we call getting a defensive and offensive play in one point in Frisbee. But for today, it's my happiness meme:

1. Sunny days.

2. Real Coffee Marc's Melt on a lazy Bora morning.

3. Lazing around on a hammock by the beach with a really good book to read.

4. Frisbee Saturdays and Sundays.

5. Walking my dog George.

6. Really nice sunsets.

7. Alabang.

8. Traveling... whether alone, with family, or with friends.

9. Eating in my favorite restaurants.

10. Getting to sleep in with Noel.

Friday is D-DAY!!! Lord.

I finally, finally saw the American Idol finale. David Cook was my vote from the onset and I was in near tears when he won. Go Cookie!!

****

I am slowly developing a serious Robert Downey Jr. crush. Uh oh.

****

It's been great having one of my dearest friends, Erin, to keep me company while Noel is away. Really brings back old times.

Noel is back on Monday night. I can't wait!

May. 20th, 2008 | 09:58 pm

Just a few more days and I get to relive my childhood again.

I SERIOUSLY CANNOT WAIT.

Tantarantan... tan tanuuuun....

****

Major personal achievement: my passport is full. That's right. All the pages have been stamped, visa'd and scrolled on and I can't tell you how proud I am! When I think of my passport I always think of  "While You Were Sleeping." It's a cheesy-ass movie but I love how Sandra Bullock's character's most-prized possession is her passport, and her greatest dream of course was getting a stamp on it.

My passport is one of my greatest treasures because it's proof of where I've been in this world. I love leaving through it (especially after immigration) to see the countries I've been to, the different languages on each stamp, and how unique each stamp looks (the Aussie stamp is the best IMO). My passport says I've been around!

Now the hassle part -- renewing it. Thankfully the DFA here isn't so archaic -- they actually have an online system that let's you have an appointed date and time now that that passport renewal requires a personal appearance. So off I go tomorrow to get it done, in time for the Shanghai tourney next month.

****

"Ironman" was cool. I haven't seen a movie in the theater in ages and this really entertained me. Good to see Robert Downey Jr. back in top form.  Terence Howard still sounded like the pimp he played in "Hustle and Flow." And Gwyneth Paltrow has a really bad lisp.

Oh and John Favreau should really lose some weight.

My 30th Birthday Wishlist

May. 20th, 2008 | 12:25 am

Not that anybody from my family reads this (hmmm... maybe I should "leak" it to them) but it's always nice to write them down for posterity.

1. A new pair of Vans.
It's so hard to buy a good pair that actually fits me in this country. I was THIS close to buying a 60 euro pair in Prague but deemed it too expensive. I love me Vans.

2. A nice, new mattress for my bed in Makati.
Because I think it's time to change it. I just inherited the present mattress and it's not comfy anymore... not as comfy as my bed in Alabang.

3. WiFi in my apartment.
Because I'm sick of going to internet cafes.

4. A small point and shoot digi cam.
I really don't need one since I can always borrow my family's. But sometimes it's really handy -- esp for parties.

5. A new Mac.
My old PowerBook G4 is still working well, but it would be nice to upgrade it. Maybe next year.

6. Picture frames.
Because I really need to document and display my life better.

7. Rent money.
For the next 3 months would be fantabulous.

8. A nice spa day/ treatment.
Because I've never experienced it and I would like to know what all this hype is all about.

9. A wallet.
I really don't need one... but I figure since I'm 30 I need to use a more mature-looking one.

10. I actually can't think of anything else since my default is usually socks and I have a ton of socks now.

3-0... dan dan dan duuuuun.

RULES
A. People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs and replace any question they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves. Tag 10 people. Those who are tagged cannot refuse.
B. These 10 people must state who they were tagged by. You cannot tag the person who tagged you. Continue this game by sending this to 8 other people.

Be straight up.

3. What's your take on same-sex marriages?
Nothing bad.

Sometimes. I'm a bit of a control freak so not knowing what lies ahead scares me.

5. What's your ideal lover like?
The one I'm with now.

6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone else?
Who wouldn't want to experience both at the same time? Crazy.

Nothing much I can do I suppose.

Be in a beach. Or just be with Noel. Or both.

11. Is being tagged fun?
Hm.

With George? I'd be so happy! He's neutered anyway.

13. What is currently the most important thing to you?
Heading my show, trying to make a name for myself in GMA, my family, frisbee, and boyfriend.

14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?

15. Would you rather be single and rich or married and poor?
Oh god. Can't I bee married and rich? Money is essential! You can't be poor forever.

16. Hi! Do you come here often?

17. Would you give your all in a relationship?
I always do I think.

18. Hindi ka ba nababastusan sa pangalan ng site na ito, Multiply? As in, "uy, nagmu-Multiply ka ba?"

Europa, Europa

May. 12th, 2008 | 05:26 pm

I love Europe. I really do. There's something about walking on cobbled streets, going inside hundred-year-old basilicas and cathedrals, exploring imposing castles, gorging on the local food, and trying to express yourself in their local language. Europe is addicitng... and it's an addiciton that I don't ever want to get over.

So this year we went around Central and Eastern Europe -- Budapest, Krakow, Prague, and Berlin. Eastern Europe is slow, inefficient, and a little backward compared to their Western neighbours -- but that isn't such a bad thing. True, the only real hassle was waiting for trains that were always an hour late or being lost in translation at airports and train stations... but everything else led to its charm. Because Eastern Europe still has the shadow of Communism and years of socialism to shake off in order to catch up with the West, the area has a melancholic feel to it... like those old Nescafe ads shot in Europe, full of shadow and fog. So atmospheric.

Among the cities, Prague was definitely my favorite. It's Europe's best kept secret. I'd love to spend more time there just to explore the countryside and see more of the Jewish Quarter. My two days there were so rushed.

And I will never forget our visit to the concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland. But I'll blog about that another day.

So now I'm in Berlin -- the last leg of my tour. I am a bit sad about leaving this lovely continent again but I'm admittedly ready to go back home. Must get back to work, to disc, to family, and to Noel.

Europe, I'll see you next year.

Paprika is the spice of life.

May. 4th, 2008 | 04:02 am

Here in Hungary, paprika is king. And I suspect it's also making me extra flatulent.

Budapest is a complete suprise. I thought it would be as chaotic as Italy and as exotic as Turkey but it's surprisingly very chic -- a cross between Paris and Rome (my dad says it actually looks like Vienna). Lots of preserved buildings, historical sites, churches and synagogues... the only thing left from its recent Communist era are the souvenir t-shirts that have Lennin on the front.

The Danube River rea is absolutely picture perfect. I'm kicking myself now for not making my way there for sunset.

Tomorrow we head to Krakow, Poland. Hopefully I can squeeze in  trip to Auscwitz and be utterly depressed.

Amsterdamned again.

Apr. 29th, 2008 | 06:47 pm

Hello friends. I'm in Amsterdam -- almost exactly the same time as last year. I'm honestly over this city and can't wait to go to Eastern Europe. I think it's because I don't smoke pot. Interesting discovery though -- during the day, the "sex windows" -- red light windows where the pok-poks stand to show off their goods -- are adorned by women um... past their prime. I'd say they're an average of like 170 pounds, 40-50 years old. Perhaps to cater to the chubby chasers?

Me: "What's gigil in English?"
Fool: (silence) "Affectionately frustrated?"

A worthy guess. I've always said it's "Grrrrrrr" in English.

****

My problem with taking cabs in this country is that they NEVER have any change with them. Even if like you give them P200 for a P120 cab ride, they'll usually say "Ma'am wala akong sukli eh." Hassle.

Yesterday my cab ride was P140 and I only had P200 and P500 with me. So I gave the guy P200 right? Then he said he had no change -- usual bull -- but I didn't have the patience to get down and have my money changed for a measly P60  sukli. Anyway, I complained --

"Bakit kasi wala kayong sukli eh. Palagi nalang ganito."
"Di naman po kasi ako mayaman kaya wala akong sukli."

Huh?

Does being rich have anything to do with always having enough change for your customer? You are in the service industry so you should always be prepared right? Why do most Filipinos often blame things on the rich-poor divide?

****

I worked 24 hours straight last week. Never again.

What's in a name?

Apr. 8th, 2008 | 09:41 pm

I had to take a mandatory drug test for GMA the other day and had an interesting argument with the girl writing down my info.

What's a middle name?

I wrote Anne. I argued that I am Melanie Anne Lozano, thus my middle is Anne. In the US it's Anne. In Australia, it's Anne. In Europe, it's Anne.

She said it's my mother's maiden name. So I said, if it's my mother's maiden name, then it should ask for my mother's maiden name, not my middle name. Or middle initial, in which case I would've written T.

So really. Who's write? The pee-er or the one taking the pee from the pee-er?

An ode to Cebu Pacific.

Apr. 7th, 2008 | 11:27 pm

Fuck you Cebu Pacific for royally screwing up my booking for Bora and charging me an extra 2,000 to "rebook" sine we were a "no-show."

Fuck you for having HORRIBLE customer service. Absolutely fucking horrible.

Fuck you for making me wait at the airport for 4 hours to get on the flight that I wasn't supposed to be on since you bumped us off.

Fuck you for almost ruining our vacation.

But then, you didn't. Bora was lovely and as per usual, I am sad to go back to the urban jungle.

And because of your inefficiency and total incompetence, thank you for those roundtrip tickets to anywhere. Suckers!

you chose AY - your Enneagram type is EIGHT (aka "The Challenger").

"I must be strong"

Asserters are direct, self-reliant, self-confident, and protective.

How to Get Along with Me

  • Stand up for yourself... and me.
  • Be confident, strong, and direct.
  • Don't gossip about me or betray my trust.
  • Be vulnerable and share your feelings. See and acknowledge my tender, vulnerable side.
  • Give me space to be alone.
  • Acknowledge the contributions I make, but don't flatter me.
  • I often speak in an assertive way. Don't automatically assume it's a personal attack.
  • When I scream, curse, and stomp around, try to remember that's just the way I am.

This part is just sooo true it's scary. This guy is good. I hate people who malign others on purpose through malicious gossip -- something of which I have been a victim of recently. Ugh I jsut don't understand people sometimes.

What I Like About Being a EIGHT

  • being independent and self-reliant
  • being able to take charge and meet challenges head on
  • being courageous, straightforward, and honest
  • getting all the enjoyment I can out of life
  • supporting, empowering, and protecting those close to me
  • upholding just causes

Bingo again.

What's Hard About Being a EIGHT

  • overwhelming people with my bluntness; scaring them away when I don't intend to
  • being restless and impatient with others' incompetence
  • sticking my neck out for people and receiving no appreciation for it
  • never forgetting injuries or injustices
  • putting too much pressure on myself
  • getting high blood pressure when people don't obey the rules or when things don't go right

Bullseye.

EIGHTs as Children Often

  • are independent; have an inner strength and a fighting spirit
  • are sometimes loners
  • seize control so they won't be controlled
  • fugure out others' weaknesses
  • attack verbally or physically when provoked
  • take charge in the family because they perceive themselves as the strongest, or grow up in difficult or abusive surroundings

I actually was an independent child and liked going off on my own, much to my parent's chagrin. I guess that's how my mum realized I was a survivor.

EIGHTs as Parents

  • are often loyal, caring, involved, and devoted
  • are sometimes overprotective
  • can be demanding, controlling, and rigid

I think I will be overprotecting and demanding. I dunno.

It's so fucking hot here. I love it. Heading to the beach tomorrow with my Alabangbanger family and I'm totally psyched about it.

Work has been hectic... been sleeping just 4 hours a day writing and checking scripts. It astounds me how some "experienced" producers aren't very good and aren't very smart. I realize that the training I got from Gameplan and Probe was really the best in the business. Most of the time I wanna pull out my hair and scream at my producers for not thinking straight. Kainis!

I love riding the MRT to work everyday. Love it!

Noel wants us to find a place together. Like a real place where I can put my books and pictures and stuff. Ah to nest again... indulge what little nestings instincts I have -- which really is all about buying bedsheets and frames. I'm not much of a decorator. I am happy of course... but sometimes I think of how fast it's all been. We've been going out for 7? 8 months? And living together since November. But then it feels right. And when something feels right, you know you can't go wrong.

I miss my dog George. I only see him once or twice a week in Alabang. Maybe I'll bring him this weekend.
